Dear Library Patrons,

At present, the library continues to provide service in curbside and homebound-delivery mode only. However, now that our Suburban Cook County region has re-entered Tier 1 mitigations, you may be wondering when the library will reopen our building to the public. On January 19, the Midlothian Public Library Board of Trustees made the decision that the library will reopen for limited in-buidling services when:

  • The Suburban Cook County region maintains the criteria for Tier 1 or Tier 2 mitigations for a period of 2 weeks, AND
  • Midlothian has had a flat or negative change in new confirmed cases for a period of 2 weeks.

Because Cook County updates its numbers for the municipalities every Wednesday, the earliest we will reopen to patrons is Thursday, February 4. If we do not reopen February 4, we will proceed on a week-to-week basis, checking the numbers every Wednesday.

When the library reopens, we will provide services in the following manner:

  • Public access to the building by advance appointment or by calling the library from the parking lot.
  • Appointments available at all hours of regular operation (at 15-minute intervals).
  • 1 hour of in-building access per patron per day for all activities (browsing and checkout, computers, fax/scan/copy/print, library card applications, and study table use).
  • No more than 7 patrons will be admitted to the building at one time. Patrons without appointments who call from the parking lot will be admitted as space is available.
  • Curbside and homebound delivery of checked-out materials will continue. Please enter the building for fax, scan, copy, and print services.

When we are ready to reopen, we will send out an announcement via our e-newsletter, social media, and post it on our website. Also, feel free to call to check in for the latest updates. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we do our best to keep our community as safe as possible.

Wishing you safety and wellness,

Jennifer Cottrill, Library Director
